How long have you been planning motorbike trips?

Since 2005. Since then we have accompanied thousands of motorcyclists along Italian, European, Mediterranean and North African roads. In over twenty years we have seen motorcycles, technologies and destinations change. What has not changed is our way of working: knowing the roads, preparing every trip and knowing what to do when something does not go according to plan.

What makes Motoexplora different?

Field experience. We do not build a trip by simply looking at a map. Our itineraries come from first-hand knowledge of the places and are designed with the people who will ride them in mind. But the most important difference shows during the trip: an unforeseen event, a broken-down motorcycle, a problem at the border or a day that has to be changed cannot be predicted by a GPS track. It is in those moments that experience, organisation and the ability to find a solution quickly make the difference.

Why choose an organised trip instead of leaving alone?

Travelling alone is beautiful and will always be. Choosing Motoexplora simply means deciding to dedicate yourself to the most beautiful part of the trip. We study itineraries, stages, hotels, stops and logistics. During the trip we manage briefings, check-ins, any practical and unexpected events. You have to focus on one thing above all: driving your bike and living the trip.

Why can an organised trip cost more than a DIY trip?

Because you are not just buying hotels and overnight stays. Behind each trip there are planning of the itinerary, organisation, staff, assistance, coverage provided by the package and a structure that remains operational during the trip. Organizing everything independently is often possible to spend less: the difference lies in the service, assistance and tranquility of having someone to take care of the organisation before and during the trip.

How many motorbikes do they normally participate?

On average we travel in groups of about 10 to 12 motorcycles. It is a size that keeps the group fluid on the road, shortens stops and preserves the human dimension that, for us, is part of the journey. The number may still vary depending on the destination and the characteristics of the tour.

Who's going with the group?

Each trip is entrusted to people with direct experience in motorbike travel and knowledge of the itinerary. The tour leader is the reference point of the group on the road and coordinates departures, stops, visits and pace of the day. When planned by the trip, the group is also followed by our means of assistance.

Is there a service van?

In the trips in which it is planned, yes. The means of assistance follows the group and represents an important support both for the logistics and in the management of the unexpected. It can carry the luggage and material of assistance and, when the conditions allow it, be used to support a motorbike that cannot continue. The presence and the characteristics of the service are always indicated in the card of the single trip.

Can I leave my luggage in the van?

When the trip includes the support vehicle, yes. This lets you ride with a lighter motorcycle and carry only what you need during the day. The arrangements are explained before departure and during the initial briefing.

Do we always travel together?

The trip is designed as a group experience and we normally ride together, following the tour leader. This does not mean riding in a rigid column: the pace is managed according to the road, traffic and conditions on the day, aiming to keep the group fluid and safe. Specific arrangements may vary depending on the destination.

How fast do you travel?

At a touring pace and always in compliance with the Highway Code. We do not organise races and we do not chase performance: our aim is to find a rhythm that lets you enjoy riding without turning a day of travel into an endurance test.

How many miles do you travel every day?

It depends on the trip. Some days are mainly devoted to riding, while on others a few kilometres leave more room for visits and experiences. We do not judge a stage by distance alone: 250 kilometres in the mountains can take more time and attention than 500 kilometres of motorway. That is why every itinerary is built day by day.

Do I have to be an expert biker?

Not necessarily. However, you need to have a safe guide and a level of experience appropriate to the chosen trip. In our calendar you will find simpler routes and others characterized by more demanding routes, roads or conditions. For this reason we indicate the level of the trip and, if you have doubts, we prefer to talk with you before booking.

Yes, choosing the right trip. Many bikers have faced with Motoexplora their first real multi-day trip. An organised trip can be just the best way to start, because it allows you to face the experience with itinerary, logistics and assistance already organised.

Which bike does it need?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the destination. Most of our itineraries are designed for motorcycles suitable for road tourism. When special funds or conditions are provided, we clearly specify this in the travel card. There is not necessarily the perfect motorcycle: there is the motorcycle suitable for the trip you want to take.

Can I join with the passenger?

Of course. Many participants travel in pairs. In the construction of the stages we take into account not only the pleasure of riding the biker, but also the comfort of those who travel on the rear seat.

Can I participate alone?

Absolutely yes. An important part of our attendees sign up individually. Then it often happens one of the most beautiful things of Motoexplora trips: you start without knowing anyone and you come back having shared thousands of kilometres with people who until a few days before were unknown.

What happens if my bike breaks down?

First of all we try to understand if the problem can be solved quickly. When it is not possible, we help the participant to find the most suitable solution: workshop, road assistance or other solution available on the territory. On trips with means of assistance, when technically and logistically possible, we can provide additional support. The goal is twofold: to help those who have the problem and allow the rest of the group to continue the trip.

What if I have an accident?

The absolute priority becomes the person. The staff manages the emergency and provides the support necessary to activate rescue and assistance. Subsequently, the aspects related to the bike and the continuation or interruption of the trip according to the situation and the cover provided. These are situations that no one would like to face, but precisely in those moments the experience and the organisation make the difference.

Is insurance provided?

Covers included may vary depending on travel and destination. In the card of each trip we clearly indicate the covers included in the fee and any optional insurance available. Before booking you can request all the conditions and the ceilings.

What happens if I don't feel good on the trip?

The staff provides assistance in identifying the most appropriate solution to the situation and, when necessary, helps to activate the health and insurance services provided. This also means organised travel: knowing that you have someone to contact when you need them.

How do you choose hotels?

A hotel for a motorcyclist is not just a place to sleep. We value location, quality, comfort, accessibility and, when possible, the possibility of adequate parking for motorcycles. The category may vary depending on the destination: we prefer a good facility in the right place rather than choosing a hotel solely for the number of stars.

How does a day normally take place?

The day begins with the briefing: the tour leader presents the itinerary, the planned stops, any visits and useful information on the road. Then we leave. During the day we alternate guides, breaks, visits and moments dedicated to the territory. Upon arrival we take care of the planned organisational aspects and the rest of the day is yours again. No day is identical to the previous one. And that is exactly the beauty of a trip.

Will I get the GPS tracks?

When planned, the necessary navigational tracks and information are made available to participants in the manner indicated for the individual trip. GPS is a useful tool, but does not replace the tour leader and the organisation of the trip.

What does the price include?

It depends on the trip. Hotels, any meals, ferries, guides, insurances and other services can change from one destination to another. For this reason each trip page contains a precise section with "The fee includes" and "The fee does not include". Nothing should be left to interpretation.

Our office will provide you with the necessary documentation and all the information relating to price, deposit, balance and travel conditions. As soon as you have found the trip you want to take. Some departures reach the expected number of participants well in advance, while others may remain available for longer. Up-to-date availability is shown on the website or can be checked directly with our office.
