Morocco: the roads of the Empire

Located at the western end of Africa, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, separated from Europe by only 14 km by the Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco is also designated in Arabic by the term Maghreb el Aqsa, the extreme West. In this country of great geological diversity, it is not impossible to go from the snows of the High Atlas to the sand dunes of the desert or to the beaches of the Atlantic coast on the same day. We will discover one of the most beautiful countries in the world by motorbike. Enter the majestic Fes, go to haggle in the souks of Marrakech. Reaching the Berber peoples of the Sahara. Cross fertile valleys, dunes and rugged mountains. Visiting Ouarzazate in a sunny landscape, among rocks of a thousand colors and under a blue sky. The city was also the backdrop for cinematic scenes, among the most famous films, the Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. The Kingdom of Morocco is a land of contrasts that leaves no one indifferent. From the snow-capped high mountains of the Atlas to the borders of the desert, only the sun can compete with the hospitality of Moroccans. You will discover a welcoming and tolerant people, in an environment made of grandiose monuments, symbols of a rich cultural and architectural heritage. A fascinating country that at every corner reminds us of a long history of 2500 years. Add to that a tasty and creative gastronomy. The countless courses represent a feast of the senses: splendid colors, a riot of smells and a symphony of flavors. Our trip will start from Genoa and it will be possible to participate with motorcycles of all kinds, thanks to the completely road layout. The first-rate hotel accommodation and the accompanying assistance will ensure maximum serenity for the participants, who will thus be able to dedicate themselves to the magical atmosphere that this land offers, for a unique dive into a dream to be experienced on a motorcycle.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Genoa / Barcelona

Departure from Genoa by GNV ferry at 12:00.

Day 2 - Barcelona / Valencia 348 Km

Arrival in Barcelona at approximately 13.00 and transfer to Valencia, arrival expected at 18.00, visit to the city and overnight stay.

Day 3 - Valencia / Malaga 600 km

Transfer stage to Malaga, arrival at approximately 6.00 pm, visit to the city and overnight stay.

Day 4 - Malaga 7 Tarifa 162 Km | Tangier / Rabat 280 Km

Departure from Malaga at 07.30, ferry from Tarifa to Tangier (arrival at 11.00) and handling of the formalities of disembarkation and of the procedures relating to motorcycle insurance at the port of Tangier. Meeting with our guide who will give us a brief introduction to Morocco, the itinerary and the travel program. Departure for Rabat along the state road that runs along the Atlantic Ocean, where we will feel the wind blowing from the sea with the scent of salt. Then scenic highway to Rabat, the Imperial city, seat of the Royal Palace and the Government. Arrival at the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 5 - Rabat / Fez 210 Km

Breakfast at the hotel and departure scheduled for 08.00. Visit of the beautiful Fes which is the spiritual and cultural center of traditional Morocco, this “museum city” has been able to maintain its traditions and its university. Fes el Bali, the old city is a World Heritage Site and is the largest and oldest Medina in Morocco. After the visit, arrival at the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 6 - Fez / Afourer 350 km

Departure at 8.00 from from Fez to Afourer. We will cross the ski resorts of Ifrane, a winter tourist center, and home to the winter royal palace, a town with unusual characteristics for Morocco, but let’s not spoil the surprise !. Stop for refueling in Ifrane. We will continue the journey through the valleys and pass by a Berber village. Lunch at a Moroccan restaurant. Continue to Afourer through areas with colorful crops. Arrival at the hotel. Welcome and accommodation in reserved rooms. Dinner and overnight.

Day 7 - Afourer / Marrakech 230 Km

Breakfast at the hotel and departure scheduled for 08.00. Departure to the Ouzoud Falls (second highest in Africa) which offer a natural spectacle of great beauty. Stop at the Degnate petrol station. Lunch in a Moroccan restaurant. Continue to the exotic Marrakech. Arrival at the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 8 - Marrakech

Today we will dedicate the whole day to discovering the splendid city of Marrakech and its most hidden and fascinating corners.

Breakfast at the hotel and then departure at 09.00 to begin the visit of the city. Marrakech is located at the gateway to the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert. For centuries the city has been a meeting point between Arab-Andalusian cultures and Berber and African civilizations.

Its sumptuous palaces, its mosques finely adorned with stuccoes, mosaics and marbles, the squares full of bazaars and teeming with life testify to the great wealth of its past and the importance of the present.

But Marrakech is also good restaurants, typical and trendy places, where to end the day in style. Afternoon dedicated to visiting the souk, a classic North African market, and the famous Jemaa El Fna Square. I’m going back to the hotel. Lunch at the hotel and dinner at the Chez Ali restaurant.

Day 9 - Marrakech / Ouarzazate 210 Km

Breakfast at the hotel and departure scheduled for 08.00. All ready in the saddle to discover the splendid roads that separate us from the Tichka Pass at 2260 above sea level, in the middle of the Atlas Mountains, in the direction of Ouarzazate.

Along this splendid road we will cross the highest pass in Morocco in a crescendo of surprises and emotions: the landscape changes at every turn, and there are many curves! We will pass by villages clinging to the rocks and cultivations that no one knows how they manage to stay still on the mountain.
We will then stop on the pass for the classic photo, and then downhill towards Ouarzazate. We will then visit one of the most famous Casbahs in Morocco: Tifeltout, which became famous as it was the setting for the “Laurence of Arabia” cast, where the film was shot.

We then continue to Ouarzazate, a quiet and small modern city, located at the foot of the Taourit kasbah and which has become famous for its proximity to the desert and its snow-covered mountains. Arrival at the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 10 - Ouarzazate / Merzouga 380Km

Departure at 08.00 towards Erfoud, along the “Via delle Mille Casbah” and the “Dades River Valley” where everything is calm and beautiful: the perfect image of an area where time has stopped. We will continue towards the Todra Gorges: an enchanting and suggestive place with the rock walls of the gorge that exceed 300mt. Lunch break and then back to Erfoud, a small village built in 1917, where the desert reigns supreme. Optional excursion to the dunes and to be agreed with the guide for sunset or sunrise the next day. Arrival at the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 11 - Erfoud / Meknes 500 Km

Departure at 08.00 to head towards the gates of the desert: to the imperial city of Fes. On the way we will pass through Errachidia and the Berber village of Azrou, famous for its curved wooden artifacts. We will then continue immersed in a forest of fragrant cedars and pines, and terraced fields. Lunch break in a typical restaurant and then we continue to Meknes. Arrival at the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 12 - Meknes / Tangier 300 Km

Visit to the city of Mekness with its double enclosures of fortified walls. One of the magnificent imperial cities founded by the Meknassa tribe, from which it takes its name. Its region is among the most beautiful in the north, with rolling hills dotted with olive trees and vineyards, it is also the main production area of ​​Berber carpets and Moroccan wine. After the visit, departure for Tangier.

We will cross the Rif passing through Chefchaouen, a picturesque town built on the sides of the mountain from which it takes its name, also called the “blue city” for the small white houses with doors and walls on the first floor painted in blue that give each alley a particular reflection and almost magical. And finally, Tetouan and a visit to the town with a Spanish flavor that dominates the Strait of Gibraltar, the village, surrounded by the Rif mountains is rich in Roman and Phoenician historical artifacts, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lunch along the road, arrival in Tangier and boarding and dinner on the ferry.
